I’m late with projects for Burda 2015 Challenge.. I didn’t manage
to finish April’s make on time.. I stopped working on my dress after tracing
the pattern.. Month later, the dress is finished.. I really liked all three
versions of wrap dress from Burda 04/2015.. I picked the cap sleeve version
#121, the other two patterns you can see here and here..
The dress from the magazine is made from striped fabric and
I wanted to make something similar.. In my stash I found this forgotten striped
cotton fabric.. There is more than 20 pattern pieces for this dress and it was
fun to put them together.. As usual, I all my concentration was devoted to matching the stripes and it was very successful.. My skirt is shorter than the pattern suggests.. I
wanted to sew those large pockets but they didn’t look good with shorter skirt.. That's why once again I don't have pockets on a garment.. I made one more change with my dress.. I skipped sewing the two ties that make
a cute bow and went only with snap closure..
The fit of the dress is great.. I’m still not sure if I would
keep this dress for myself.. It looks a bit too serious for me.. Probably
because of the lapels.. If I find time, I would love to make a version without the lapels because I like other details on this dress..

Gorgeous dress! It fits you very well and looks great on! Too bad that you find it too serious for yourself. Maybe if you styled it differently/more casual, you might like it more? I also loved all the versions of this dress in the magazine and I have to give it a try now that I know that the fit is good.

DeleteYou never cease to amaze, Tea! When I saw this dress in the magazine, I was all "meh" and "modern version of 1950s" and "I'm not buying that". Now I see how much I was in the wrong! I guess I got fooled by the minimalist look of striped fabric. Goes to prove that your experience as a sewist is great --you can see the pattern on its own. I love your version: the colour is very original and your attention to matching prints is, as always, respectable. Looks great on you. I'd seriously reconsider giving it away. It might come in handy if you ever have something more official to attend.

I love reading your comments :) It's funny how I saw the potential with this pattern and ended feeling like '50s housewife in finished dress :) I'll probably wait for a while to see if there's any occasion where I could wear this dress.. In the end, I could always make another one :D
DeleteI hope you didn't stare too much at the photos.. Mokosha and I were like two zombies while taking them (as you can see on my face).. We had couple of rainy and colder days and I just couldn't postpone documenting this dress any more :)

So... this convinced me that I need to make that dress. I liked it when I saw it in the magazine, but your version is sublime! I actually don't think it looks too serious, because of the colour and the stripes. You look beautiful!

ReplyDeletethanks :) when it comes to sewing dresses, I don't mind having more than 20 pattern pieces to put together.. I have a problem with jackets and coats.. I'm still not sure why ;)
